Two months ago, a clerk at a Huawei store proudly told me that the Huawei Mate 60 was very popular and retained its value well, with no price drop even after nearly a year since its release. They urged me to buy it quickly, claiming it was definitely worth it.

Today, however, the Mate 60 series has seen an official price reduction across the board. Fortunately, I was smart enough not to believe their sales pitch.

Let's talk about the price cuts: the standard Mate 60 has been reduced by 500 yuan, now starting at 4999 yuan; the Pro version has been reduced by 800 yuan, now starting at 5699 yuan; and the Pro+ version has also been reduced by 800 yuan, now starting at 8199 yuan.

The Huawei Mate 60 series could be said to have been born with a silver spoon, as the comeback of the Kirin processor, both its prestige and sales have reached their peak.

It is a bit unexpected for the Mate 60 series to receive an official price cut before the release of the Mate 70 series.

Many netizens believe that the price reduction of the Huawei Mate 60 series is mainly because the Huawei Mate 70 is about to be launched, and this is a way to clear inventory for the new product.

While this explanation is not wrong, setting aside the issue of clearing inventory, there are more direct reasons for the Mate 60 price adjustment.

One reason is that the Huawei Pura 70 series actually experienced an official price cut last month, which was then called the "Summer Gift."

The reduction is similar to that of the Mate 60 series, with the standard version reduced by 500 yuan, and the Pro and Pro+ versions by 800 yuan. The most expensive Pura 70 Ultra was reduced by 1000 yuan.

Originally, the volume models Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro were priced the same as the Pura 70 and Pura 70 Pro, and their positioning was quite clear. The Mate 60 is a business flagship, while the Pura 70 is an imaging flagship. If the prices are similar, one can simply choose based on personal preference. However, after the Pura 70 series experienced a price drop, an awkward situation arose where the Pura 70 is significantly cheaper than the Mate 60 by several hundred dollars, giving the impression that the Pura 70 is positioned as a lower tier, with the Pro version's issue being particularly prominent.

In terms of core configuration, the Pura 70 Pro outperforms the Mate 60 Pro in both performance and imaging capabilities, featuring the brand-new Kirin 9010 processor and an upgraded main camera sensor to a 1/1.3-inch OmniVision OV50H. Despite having weaker core configurations, the Mate 60 Pro is priced 800 yuan higher, which may seem a bit overpriced, right?

On the other hand, the official version of HarmonyOS NEXT, which is set to be released in the fourth quarter of this year, will only be available on the Huawei Mate 60 and Pura 70 series as the only two flat smartphone models. HarmonyOS NEXT is a "pure-blood Harmony" system, which will no longer be compatible with Android apps. This represents a significant overhaul, and the difficulty and significance of this upgrade can be imagined. It can be said to be one of the biggest strategic moves Huawei has made in recent years.

Therefore, offering discounts on the Mate 60 and Pura 70 to promote adaptation can inject much-needed fresh blood into the "pure-blood Harmony," making it a strategic promotion. It should be noted that with Huawei's sudden price drop, many third-party stores seem to have not yet reacted, still listing prices at several thousand yuan.

Additionally, most of the billion-yuan subsidy channels have not followed suit with the price adjustment. The standard version of the Mate 60 is generally priced around 5,000 yuan, which is close to the official price. Barring any surprises, it should be no problem for the channel price of the standard version to drop to around 4,500 yuan in the near future.Of course, due to the price reduction this time, the price difference between the standard and Pro versions has narrowed, which actually indirectly increases the cost-performance ratio of the Mate 60 Pro, and I believe it should be considered first.

Compared to the standard version, the Mate 60 Pro mainly upgrades the screen from a flat screen to an equi-depth four-curved screen, which significantly enhances the texture and feel.

Additionally, it has a better telephoto lens, a larger battery, faster charging, better waterproofing, and supports satellite communication, among other improvements, making it a comprehensive upgrade.

Furthermore, the channel price of the "prison fruit" iPhone 15 is currently around 4500 yuan, and Huawei and Apple have similar pricing strategies, each with their own hardware and pricing systems.

Now that these two models are in direct competition, it remains to be seen which one the customers will favor more.
